TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS “DON’T TRUST ANYONE OVER 30”?
Various people have been credited with coining the phrase “Don’t trust anyone over 30,” but Jack Weinberg described how it really all came about when he was responding to an annoying newspaper reporter about the Free Speech Movement: “I told him we had a saying in the movement that we don’t trust anybody over 30. It was a way of telling the guy to back off, that nobody was pulling our strings.” Weinberg is now 81. (Draw your own conclusions!)
While the version in the clue is the most widely known, like most expressions, it spawned numerous variants. The 1976 film “Logan’s Run” became associated with the phrase when no one over the age of 30 was allowed to live. (In the 1967 novel the film is based on, the age when you had to go was 21).
Nancy got it right. She bet $1,399 and finished with $2,799.
Ged got as far as Don’t, omitting the apostrophe. He lost his $2,800 bet and finished with $4,200.
Amy got it, too. She bet $16,000 and won the game with $50,000. Amy’s 7-day total is $257,800.

Smith alumna here and deeply disappointed that none of the three could guess Smith College — first college to be founded by a woman. By the way, Ken Jennings, it’s So-FY-a Smith, and not So-FEE-A. Her minister, John M. Greene tried to persuade her to leave her estate to his alma mater, Amherst College — Nope! (only hers because her father and brothers were dead). Congrats to Amy.
@Karin, thanks for stopping by and sharing that info with us 😀
GO, AMY, GO, GO, GO!!!
I had “Don”t ask, don’t tell”.
You probably did not read the year on the clue:1964. “Don’t ask..don’t tell ” was from the Clinton administration in 1993.
A very Happy Thanksgiving to everyone celebrating today
Happy Thanksgiving to you as well vj hope you had a great holiday
Well I am happy to see the ladies getting final right today. And I am happy to see amy passing the 250000 dollar mark since Jennifer Quail. Although I have never heard of this before, it’s not pretty common to hear Don’t trust anyone over 30 as this phrase is not often used in society. Furthermore, if Amy can win game number 8 we will have our first female 8 time champ. Since it happened in 2019 it can easily happen in december 2021 and january 2022.
It was a VERY prevalent expression in the 1960’s . There was even a movie “Wild in the Streets” whose premise was anyone older than 30 was imprisoned.
I remember going to see that movie!
Amy’s total winnings has now surpassed Jennifer Quail’s total as the second successful female contestant.
