Final Jeopardy: 1970s Movie Scenes (7-22-21)
Today’s Final Jeopardy question (7/22/2021) in the category “1970’s Movie Scenes” was:
Writer Dan O’Bannon based a scene in this film on his own Crohn’s disease, which felt like things inside him fighting to get out
New champ Matt Amodio, a Ph.D student from New Haven, CT won $40,400 yesterday. In Game 2, he is up against: Rekha Rajkumar, a stay-at-home parent from Oak Park, IL; and Pete Wisniewski, a math teacher from King of Prussia, PA.
Robin Roberts introduced the show as a special day: “Today is July 22 and would have been Alex Trebek’s 81st birthday. He was a kind, intelligent and philanthropic man which is why I am incredibly proud to say we’ve raised nearly $100,000 for BE THE MATCH, a wonderful charity that is dedicated to helping every patient get the life-saving transplant they need. Alex loved this game so let’s celebrate it and his legacy by playing the game he loved.”

Some cried fowl when this Marvel comic book hero flew away in 1979, but he would return show

Many of the days of the week bear the name of Germanic gods, but this one is from the name of a Roman deity show
Matt also got the last Daily Double in “Ancient History” under the $2,000 clue, with 7 clues left after it. In the lead with $24,600, he had $13,000 more than Rekha in second. He bet $2,000 and he was RIGHT.
This queen of Egypt, Akhenaton’s wife, was a symbol of fertility, bolstered by the 6 daughters she bore show
Matt finished in the lead with a runaway $31,000. Rekha was next with $9,600. At negative $400, the game was over for Pete at this point. Two clues went uncovered.
Only ONE of the contestants left in Final Jeopardy! got it right.
Dan O’Bannon wrote the screenplay for the classic science fiction horror movie “Alien” (1979). From Fact Source: “O’Bannon revealed on multiple occasions, that his experiences with Crohn’s disease inspired the chest bursting alien creature, that incubated inside victim’s stomach….” Describing his own suffering, he said: “The digestion process felt like something bubbling inside of me struggling to get out.”
In Screen Rant’s “15 Things You Didn’t Know about Ridley Scott’s Alien”, the chest-burster scene is the topic of No. 6 and No. 2. No. 6 graphically describes why the actors were genuinely horrified during the chest-burster scene. The scene is also mentioned in No. 2 as one of the film’s most gruesome scenes that actually made some test audience members throw up!
Rekha thought it was “The Exorcist”. That cost her $4,500 and left her with $5,100.
Matt got it right. He bet $10,000 and won the game with $41,000. Matt Amodio’s 2-day total is an eye-popping $81,400.
There were 2 triple stumpers in the whole game:
ANCIENT HISTORY ($1600) Secretary to Emperor Hadrian, Suetonius had access to the Imperial Archives & wrote “The 12” these rulers
SOMETHING BIG IS COMING! ($2000) 2/3 of a mile long, the world’s longest passenger train, the Ghan, travels 1,850 miles coast to coast across this continent

So what was that question about Juggernaut where the correct answer sounded like she said Juggernaut. And the guy was corrected “it’s not Krishna, it’s Krishna” ??
Annie, the clue was “The term ‘juggernaut’ comes from a massive vehicle pulled by thousands of pilgrims to honor this avatar of Vishnu”
I wasn’t paying that close attention at that point, but according to J-Archive, Matt buzzed in first and said “Krishan” . Rekha gave the correct answer: “Jagannath” and. Robin corrected Matt’s pronunciation to Krishna.
What a performance by Matt! I’m loving it. Congratulations to him and I hope this trend continues. Also good for Robin’s charity.
Wow, what a game! $81,400 in 2 days is impressive! Great job Matt! Keep it up!
Matt is like a male version of Ken Jennings.
You will never be forgotten Alex.
I, personally, think that every guest host has been superior to Trebek. I liked Mayim the very best of all.
Sorry that the clues were mean to Pete.
Matt’s high score is very similar to what Larissa Kelly, Roger Craig, Mark Runsvold, and James Holzhauer had in their previous runs. I think he could set a new record this time around tomorrow. Pete is dismissed since Matt was pretty much hot on the buzzer today. Probably the second dismissal of the game so far. As a previous UC sufferer and achieving remission, Alien was my favorite film. Anyone else here have previously had UC before?
By the way happy birthday to the late Alex Trebek.
I hope he will make it to the TOC list!
Me too. He could be the next long running memorable champion, but I think that this is going to depend on luck. I think the last time somebody had a 2-Day Total over $80,000 was James Holzhauer who scored $82,606 in 2 days, which is the 4th highest 2-Day Total ever. If that’s true, then $81,400 is the 5th highest 2-Day total ever. The 3rd highest was Chris Fleitas with $82,901, and he lost to 7-Time Champion: Joon Pahk in his 3rd game. The 2nd highest was Mark Runsvold with $103,000, ever since him, nobody has won over $100,000 in just 2 days. It is possible, but it’s very hard, and the highest 2-Day Total is $114,000, scored by Roger Craig, and we all know what happened in his 2nd game, with $77,000 being an important number. BTW, Happy Birthday, the late Alex Trebek.
Yeah. That can happen!
