WHAT IS THE JABBERWOCK?

“Jabberwocky” is the title of a poem by Lewis Carroll, one of the most famous nonsense poems in the English language. The fearsome creature in the poem is the Jabberwock and, as you can see, the title has 11 letters and the name of the creature has 10. Jabberwock translates to “the fruit of much excited discussion”, or the “result” as today’s FJ! clue puts it. The poem appeared in “Through the Looking-Glass”, Carroll’s sequel to “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” (1865).
