Rombauer, 11-1 Long shot, Wins Preakness
Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit was cleared to run in the Preakness after multiple blood tests showed no doping, but it was 11-1 long shot Rombauer that pulled away at the end to win the 2021 Preakness in Baltimore by 3 ½ lengths.
Medina Spirit could still have that Derby win nullified if results of a follow up test show the presence of the steroid betamethasone in higher than acceptable levels. Trainer Bob Baffert stayed away from Pimlico, sending a long time assistant in his place. Medina Spirit finished third behind Rombauer and Midnight Bourbon in an exciting race.
The Belmont Stakes, the final Triple Crown race, will be on June 5th.
