WHAT IS JAPAN?

Eisaku Sato was Japan’s Prime Minister from 1964 to 1972 (during the U.S. presidencies of Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon). According to Nobel.org: “The reasons the Nobel Committee gave for awarding the Peace Prize to Eisaku Sato [in 1974] were that as Japanese Prime Minister he represented the will for peace of the Japanese people, and that he had signed the nuclear arms Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in 1970. In the Committee’s opinion, the award to Sato would encourage all those who were working to halt the spread of nuclear arms.”

Sato shared the prize with Irish politician Seán MacBride, who was rewarded “for his efforts on behalf of human rights, among other things as one of the founders of Amnesty International.”

Sharon got it right. She bet $3,000, bringing her up to $6,400.

Molly wrote down Vietnam, crossed that out and went with South Korea. She didn’t bet a single yen so she stayed at $8,400.

Tim got it right, too. He bet $1,000 and won the game with $21,200. Tim Latham is the new Jeopardy! champ.

It’s too bad that Sharon couldn’t get anything going but I am happy that she got final right. Congrats to Tim on the win but I hope he can build up on his win before the greatest of all time reruns again. Twin peaks was a great comedy tv series of all time. I was surprised that Sharon didn’t know it.

    • VJ says:

It sure looks like Tim can hang in there considering he ran away with that game without even getting one of the Daily Doubles.

I guess there will be no Teachers Tournament.

        • VJ says:

Yes, there will. Didn’t you see the tweet from Jeopardy! I posted the other day?

“More new episodes are coming after the #JeopardyGOAT encore, including the 2020 #TeachersTournament. Stay tuned!”

      • Richard Corliss says:

Yes. I did. May 4th-15th will be Ken Jennings reruns and May 18th-29th will be the Teachers Tournament.

        • William Weyser says:

I thought the Teachers Tournament would start on May 25th, and end on June 5th. If you have the correct air dates for that tournament, you win.

    • Tylo says:

Twin Peaks was anything but a sitcom. Started with a teenager found murdered and wrapped in plastic, so a murder mystery that ended up going into the supernatural and becoming a precursor to The X-Files. It had some funny moments, sure, but was a but too intense to ever be a comedy all-timer.
They did have some damn fine coffee and pie, though…

    • Howard says:

Never saw Twin Peaks, but I’m fairly sure it was not a comedy. Might have been quirky, but not funny-quirky.

Savoring the last 7 days of new games before reruns kick in.

  3. Richard Corliss says:

Darn. Anjali Bonner from April 15, 2009 wagered the same thing on the Daily Double.
