WHAT ARE “MOONLIGHT” & “SPOTLIGHT”?

At the 2016 Oscars, “Spotlight” was nominated for 6 Oscars and won 2: Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture, beating, among others, “The Revenant” which was the favorite to win Best Picture, according to this article on FiveThirtyEight.

The 2017 Oscars was the scene of that big fiasco when “La La Land” was erroneously announced as the winner. “Moonlight” was nominated for 8 Oscars and took home 3: Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali) and Best Picture, after that mess got straightened out!

Lindsey got it right. She bet $3,401 and won the game with $24,401. Her 3-day total is $79,602.

A brand new week started off in a DISMISSAL, Lauren forgot who was Holmes’ brother, so she was in the red and OUT. Anyway, “Spotlight” deserved the Best Picture Oscar, but “Moonlight”? No. “La La Land” would’ve won and although it was a minor error, it was legitimate because they picked the most deserving winner, then realized the mistake and went to the wrong one. “Moonlight” is the new “Shakespeare in Love”, folks.

P.S.: Good luck on your brackets because March Madness starts this week.

Jeopardy fans would do well to follow the tournament. Villanova was a FJ response a couple years ago after they won it all.

I finalized my bracket this morning. I’d recommend Nate Silver’s “FiveThirtyEight” site, whose predictions in sports and politics are always the best in the business.

  2. RT81 says:

Lindsey does not seem arrogant to me at all

    • VJ says:

Actually, arrogance is not a quality that I would attribute to anyone unless I perceived it in the way they were treating another person or myself

  3. VJ says:

Lindsey comes off as self-confident to me

    • John B./I. says:

      @VJ
Larry Martin was self confident. Sadly he is gone. To me Lindsey comes off as arrogant. Sorry. My take on her.I don’t have to like the players you do and vice versa. It’s (still) a free country and I am entitled to that opinion as you are to yours and everybody else to her or his.

One of my favorite videos, from one of my favorite YouTube channels, breaking down the 2017 Oscar nominees, including Moonlight.

    • John Christian Ambion says:

@JP “La La Land” would’ve won. Although it was an error, it was deserved to be the Best Picture Oscar.

      • JP says:

I certainly enjoyed La La Land more than Moonlight. I also thought Manchester By The Sea was was excellent. More moments of that movie stuck with me than any other nominee that year.

  5. VJ says:

Brian was a worthy competitor today, contrary to some opinions. Lindsey only had a $3,600 lead when they got down to the last 6 clues when she picked up a $2K clue, then hit the last DD. She might have had a runaway if she bet more on that.

The buzzer clicking happens because she is holding it to close to her mic. How that translates to arrogance is beyond me. But, anyhow, she was shaking it for all it was worth on that Tamerlane clue where Brian and Lauren both got in there before her with incorrect responses. After Lauren went with “Poland”, Lindsey stopped trying to buzz in so that must have been what she was going to say.

  6. John B./I. says:

Another beginning of a week and we have a champ who did NOT crash on Monday. Maybe Lindsey will break the 5 game barrier? Congratulations for win #3 to Lindsey! Maybe it’s something in the transmission, but she seems to come across a little bit arrogant and the way she works the buzzer is – as another comment stated on Friday- a bit irritating.

  7. Lou says:

Congratulations to Lindsey once again on her win. What movies are there that has the word water in them?

    • John says:

“The Shape of Water ” won the year after”Moonlight” (best movie 2017, awarded the Oscar in 2018), just a year before “Green Book” .

  8. Richard Corliss says:

I just noticed. Every time the middle player is out, it shows the contestant on the champions’ podium and goes back to the all 3 podiums and it shows his opponent on the left.

    • William Weyser says:

I noticed that too. Nowadays, whenever the middle player is out, instead of a fade straight to the right player, there is an extra fade of the 2 contestants on the left & right players, before the fade to the right player, and yes, we got introduced to this ”New Fade” in Kyle Jones’ 3rd game, when he & Andrew Lundy got to play Final Jeopardy!, after not giving Riley Westmoreland a chance.
