Dan found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Word Origins” under the $600 clue on the 6th pick of the round. Audrey and Claire were tied in the lead at $800 and Dan had half of that. He bet the $1,000 allowance and couldn’t come up with a response in time so he was WRONG.

Audrey finished in the lead with $6,200. Claire was second with $4,800 and Dan was last with $400.
Round 2 Categories: Possessive Book Titles – Nature – Primetime TV – Mountains – An “Ax” – To Grind
Dan found the first Daily Double in “Nature” under the $1,600 clue on the 8th pick. He was in third place with negative $400 at this point, $9,000 behind Audrey’s lead. He bet the $2,000 allowance and thought it was cicadas. That was WRONG.

Four clues later, Claire found the last Daily Double in “Possessive Book Titles” under the $1,200 clue. In the lead with $9,200, she had $600 more than Audrey in second place. She bet $2,000, and she was RIGHT.

Claire finished in the lead with $15,200. Audrey was next with $13,400 and Dan was out of the game, at negative $2,400.
BOTH contestants left in Final Jeopardy! got it right.
On the 5th day of May in 1862, Mexican forces defeated the French in the Battle of Puebla even though they were outnumbered. Celebrations commemorating the victory sprang up in subsequent years in both Mexico and primarily Southern California. Audrey bet $5,400, bringing her up to $18,800.
Claire bet $1,799, finishing with $16,999 and handing the third semi-final spot to Audrey. However, it’s unlikely that will cost her a spot in the semi-finals.

It would be nice if a player with zero or negative money were allowed to play in Final Jeopardy just for the fun of it. It wouldn’t count or mean anything; it would just be fun to see it. It could give the person with no money a moral victory if that person got the Final correct and the other two with money completely blew the Final. Just my thought to improve the show just a little.
Dan had trouble getting into the rhythm today, third time that the ladies swept the game up. A second wild card is secured and we finish the week with three contestants scoring zero or below and unable to participate in final and several strong semifinalists. Also VJ Cinco de mayo is a very popular holiday in Mexico and Spain. What was your opinion in today’s game?
@Lou, well, that one clue in the last round about the body part to the grindstone reminded me of how much it used to irk me when my parents used expressions like that or little parables to get their point across. My philosophy was “just say what you mean”. The end result is I know what such expressions mean. If my kids do, they only learned it from me if they heard someone else say it and asked me what it meant.

Seems the ladies have the upper hand, at least right now. Out of the 5 SF spots four would be young ladies, only one guy. Congratulations to Claire!
Has to be a record. (Teen) tournament or not,we had 3 days in a calendar week where only 2 contestants made it to FJ, so unfortunately we’ll never know if Dan would have come up with Cinco de Mayo.

Sorry, I meant Audrey of course, but Claire looks pretty good for a semi WC with almost 17 K. Only 2 more days/games to go in the quarters. You never know of course but I would be surprised if Claire – leave alone Emma – would not make it to the semis.
@John B./I. Two young ladies outwit the young man who was now DISMISSED. @Richard Corliss, I think you will add “Locked in” to Emma and Claire because they are high enough to go via WC. The two are now open for grabs.

The way it looks right now I think you can add Emma to the semifinalists as well, getting a WC almost 100% for sure!?
Maya won on Wednesday not Emma. On Monday, I will add the phrase “Locked in” that way you’ll know which wild cards have been announced.
