Ohio State and Oklahoma State Open With Victories
Two OSUs ranked in the AP Top 10– #2 Ohio State and #10 Oklahoma State–opened their 2017 college football seasons with victories on August 31st.
Usually, Big Ten teams open the season with non conference games, but in a rare opening game conference contest, Ohio State traveled to Bloomington, Indiana to take on the Indiana Hoosiers. The Buckeyes were 20-1/2 point favorites, but Indiana gave them all that they could handle through the first half and took a 14-13 lead into the locker room. Ohio State was back to its old self in the second half, pulling away for a 49-21 victory. Quarterback J.T. Barrett threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown for Ohio State. Keep an eye on Buckeye freshman running back J.K. Dobbins, who rushed for 181 yards on 29 carries. Hoosiers quarterback Richard Lagow passed for 410 yards and three touchdowns but had two intercepted.
The Buckeyes will travel to Norman, Oklahoma on September 9th to take on the #7 Oklahoma Sooners.
Speaking of Oklahoma, the Oklahoma State Cowboys hosted in state rival Tulsa. Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph was outstanding, completing 20 of 24 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns. The Cowboys also rushed for 332 yards as they routed Tulsa 59-24. Oklahoma State takes on South Alabama next on September 8th.
