Beat Shazam Recap: June 8, 2017

Beat Shazam returned on 6/8/2017. Jamie and October were on hand with 3 new teams who will pit their song knowledge against each other for a chance to win a big million. Even if they don’t get that million dollar chance, the prizes are pretty good for the top two teams.

Here are the teams with the nicknames we gave them.

  • Chicago Fire: Tim & Luke, 2 high school buddies who work at the same fire department
  • Sunshine Twins: Kim and Tracy, identical mirror twins and best friends from Bradenton in the Sunshine State
  • 2Deejays: Steve and Bill, 2 friends from West Haven, CT

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at the million if they get all 5 right. There are no more multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.
1. 2010s: “Give Your Heart a Break” (Demi Lovato) $49,000
The million $$ prize is now off the table
2. Latin Hits: “You Sang to Me” (Marc Anthony) – $49,000
3. Love Songs: “I’ll Be” (Edwin McCain) $74,000
4. Divas: “Vision of Love” (Mariah Carey) $99,000
5. Billy Joel: “Tell Her About It” $124,000
Final Category: R&B. It was “should I stay or should I go” time for Steve and Bill. They could take $124,000 home or they could try to beat Shazam and double their money to $248,000. HOWEVER (Jamie Foxx always says), if Shazam beats them, they will go home with $62,000. Only one of them can play the round. Steve felt very confident with the category and told Bill that “either way,” they were going home with $248,000 (whatever that meant). Steve played Shazam for the last song. He knew the song but did not ring in before Shazam answered it. Steve said he second guessed himself. So they went home with $62,000.

And here is the song: “Everybody Plays the Fool” by the Main Ingredient, a bit of a sad choice since Cuba Gooding, Sr., the lead singer, passed away last month.

Shazam will return in 2 weeks, on June 22nd, and it was also announced that someone will play for the million dollars in that episode, which means they get all 6 songs!
