Beat Shazam Recap: June 1, 2017

The second episode of Beat Shazam aired on 6/1/2017. Jamie and October returned with 3 new teams to vie for a chance to win a cool million. There was one slight change that went entirely unannounced. Last week each regular round had 5 songs. This week, there were only 4.

Team Cousins: Melissa & Andrea, who re-connected on Facebook after being apart for 30 years
Team Football: Grant & D.J., from Little Rock, AR. They played high school and pro football together
Team Chicago: Christine & Tristen, a mother and daughter from the Windy City

Christine and Tristen had to head back home to Chicago but not before they got hugs from Jamie Foxx and Odell Beckham.

Jamie thought Grant and D.J. didn’t have a prayer so he went over and said one with them

Round 5: The 80s
First 3: $10,000 Fast Track: $20,000. Second place goes home with half their money.

Grant and D.J. couldn’t possibly beat Melissa and Andrea now but Jamie encouraged them to try to add some more $$ to their bank

So it was back to Little Rock for Grant and D.J. They got $3,000 to take with them. The Cousins were on fire in that round and now they go on to the lucrative last round.

One Million Beat Shazam Round – 6 songs
First 5: $25,000 each. They only get a shot at the million if they get all 5 right. There are no more multiple choice screens and they have to know the song’s exact title before Shazam to be right.

The ladies went with “Damn Cold Night” and now the million dollar prize is off the table, but they will still get to chance to double their money.
5. Boy Bands: “Step by Step” (New Kids on the Block) $183,000
Final Category: The ’70s. Melissa and Andrea had to decide if they wanted to call it a day and take $183,000 home. If they beat Shazam, they will double their money to $366,000. If Shazam beats them, they will go home with $91,500. Only one of them can play the round. Jamie said they were “musical gladiators.” Indeed they were and he told the ladies that they only missed 5 songs in the entire show so far. (Yeah, but they weren’t worth $91,500 even collectively!) Andrea was a little skittish but Melissa thought they should go for it and gave the stage to Andrea since ’70s songs were her specialty.

Andrea nailed Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” before Shazam and the cousins won $366,000. Hats off, ladies!

Now last week, when Russell didn’t try to beat Shazam but then knew the song instantly, we said he would never be able to hear that song the same way again! The same is true for Melissa and Andrea only they will remember that knowing this song was worth an extra $183 grand! Andrea thanked Melissa for having faith in her.

Andrea did fret a little over whether the actual title was “It’s a Wild World,” but Melissa assured her she got it. That is the big pitfall for the contestants on this show — picking a line or adding words from a line to the actual title.
