NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
Marie Claire’s report on Forbes’ 2016 list of highest paid actresses is cool, not only because they don’t present the list as a click-through slideshow– they also noted an important and positive change in this year’s results: “The always-hilarious Melissa McCarthy took the second spot on the list this year with $33 million in earnings. McCarthy’s rise up the Forbes list is wonderful and signals an important change in Hollywood and in what moviegoers expect from a leading lady. McCarthy isn’t the only woman bringing some much-needed diversity to the Forbes list…. half of the top-earning women are over 40 and two women of color made it to the top 10 this year (although we’d like to see that number go up for next year’s list).”
Joanne didn’t have a response. She lost her $2,500 bet and was left with $1,300.
Nilanka thought it was Amy Adams. He lost $6,799 and finished with $7,601.
Emmett also had nada, or nada legible at least. He lost $11,301, landing him in second place and making Nilanka the new Jeopardy! champ.
A triple stumper from each round

Emmett should have bet 5000 instead of 10000 if he wanted to maintain the lead. But that costly bet cost him the match. Furthermore, I was rooting for Emmett to keep winning but it seems that my hopes were dashed
On one of the last clues of the first round, I saw Emmett’s score of $7,000 down to $6,200 even when he gave the correct response.
You’re right, Dalton, that did happen on the $800 clue in “Black” (The Black Death that killed many in Europe in the 1300s is believed to have been caused by this type of organism, yersinia pestis).
Emmett said “What is a bacterium”
Alex said “Good”
Then his score went down to $6,200. After the $1K clue (same category) was read, the screen cut back to the players and Emmett had $7,800. Emmett answered the $1K clue, too, and had $8,800 at that point.
It was a scoring mistake.
the minus button got pressed instead of the plus button
I looked into this a little bit more and, actually, the Top 5 for 2016 were the same as their 2015 list, with different positions and $$
1. Jennifer Lawrence: $46M (2015 #1 $52M)
2. Melissa McCarthy: $33M (2015 #3 $23M)
3. Scarlett Johannson: $25M (2015 #2 $35.5M)
4. Jennifer Aniston: $21M (2105 #5 $16.5M)
5. Fan Bingbing: $17M (2015 #4 $21M)

Nilanka bet the maximum of his acceptable range. Nicely done. Again, an example of when the person in second should not bet everything.
