The Final Jeopardy question (1/9/2017) in the category “19th Century Notables” was:
Calling him a red-headed madman, in 1889 a group of his neighbors signed a petition to ban him from his home in Arles, France.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
The Vincent Van Gogh Gallery has the petition signed by Van Gogh’s neighbors in English and in French, accompanied by a report and inquest. Van Gogh was accused of being a public menace, particularly to women. Unless I’m totally missing something, it does not refer to him as a “red-headed madman” or “fou-roux” anywhere although it is mentioned in many online articles about the petition.
Interesting: Frédéric Mistral was actually Arles’ most notable resident when Van Gogh moved there in 1888. In a letter to his brother, Theo, Van Gogh said he wanted to meet Mistral but was being ignored. Mistral later won half of 1904’s Nobel Prize in Literature. Today, more people associate Arles with Van Gogh. Mistral has had one Jeopardy! clue. Van Gogh has been the topic of too many clues to count.
Joe got it right. He bet $8,000 and that brought him up to $16,800.
Blair got it right, too. She bet $6,802 and finished with $17,402.
Jack wrote down “Zimmerman.” He lost his $4,000 bet so he wound up with $13,400. So Blair won the match and she is the new Jeopardy! champ.
Reversal: BRAZILIAN CUISINE: Pao de queijo, or cheese puffs, are a popular accompaniment to meals made from Parmesan cheese & this cassava flour. Jack’s response of arrowroot was deemed just as good as the one they wanted.
2 triple stumpers:
HEALTH & MEDICINE ($2000) A keloid, a raised scar resulting from an abnormal healing response, is caused by an excess buildup of this protein.
POLITICIANS ($2000) In 1940 & ’41 Senator Gerald P. Nye was a main spokesman of this committee for keeping the U.S. out of war

Anyone else notice the American psycho answer was not given in the form of a question?
@CosmicSmoker, idk, it did seem like he didn’t say “What is” but the closed captioned said he did. He wouldn’t have been penalized for it in the first round anyway.
We still haven’t got a correct response from the leader heading into the Final. Well, Maybe tomorrow! 🙂
So Joe ran the history category, Jack ran the geography one and Blair almost ran the songs. Joe jumped in on the Britney Spears clue when I thought he would be the one to jump in on the Nancy Sinatra clue. Just goes to show ya, ya never know how things are gonna pan out.

Not a bad finish. Although i was wondering what Vincent Van Gogh did to those women. Do you know if he sexually harrassed them on the streets, VJ? I agree it does not make him a menace, unless they called him by that as a nickname
I have no idea if he did or didn’t do the things he was accused of in the petition, Lou. One woman said he picked her up by the waist. Others said he made lewd remarks and chased women right into their homes. Seemed like it was just their word and someone else saying yup, that’s true.
As for the nickname, same thing. I have no way of knowing. Some books say that was just something that was made up after Van Gogh was already dead.
