New Mexico became the 47th state in the Union on 1/6/1912 and Arizona became the 48th on 2/14/1912, in plenty of time to participate in the upcoming election when each state cast 3 electoral college votes for Woodrow Wilson. Interestingly, right after the 1908 election, the Old Farmer’s Almanac was already depicting 1912 electoral college votes on a chart. Their chart notes show the number of electoral college votes needed to win the presidency if both Arizona and New Mexico were admitted (266), if only one was admitted (265), or if neither was admitted (263). As it turned out, Woodrow Wilson won the election by a landslide 435 electoral votes out of 531.

Wendi thought it was Hawaii. She lost her $700 bet and finished with $2,100.

Well, since my petty and malicious attack on yesterday’s stupid answer seemed to go over well, I’ll do it again today.
Anyone (or anytwo, today) who thinks Hawaii’s statehood and Woodrow Wilson’s election were close to each other in time only displays an ignorance of U.S. history.
Now, I was alive (but very young) when Hawaii became a state, so that gives me an advantage, but even so, equating Hawaii as a state with Wilson’s election is the equivalent of saying something like Reagan was president during World War II.
I hate to be quite this negative, but here goes: I honestly believe people are getting stupider and more ignorant with each passing year. I could say more, but I won’t get political here.
A friend heard something earthshaking (to him) during the interview portion of Tues12/6 J! but can’t recall what it was. It would mean a lot if somebody has an idea what that was and posts it. Thanks a million!

I liked the On the Money category. idk why Tim bet low on that but I bet he wished he bet it all in the moment. Of course, it turned out he didn’t need it.
I’m happy he got his 4th win and that puts him right between Todd Giese and Andrew Pau on the ToC list. I’ll get him up there later.

VJ, thanks for jogging my memory on that one. That’s the one that had us here convinced they had just come from lunch. It was Tim who actually buzzed in with that 2nd pronunciation. I couldn’t believe I heard what I heard. C’est la vie!

Hawaii became a state in 1959, as did Alaska, and the first presidential election after that was in 1960 where JFK battled Richard Nixon and JFK won. The “left through the window” category was about a certain royal leaving a room in Prague through this method, referring to the Defenestration of Prague.
There was a question in the Rooms category that I didn’t get at all, the answer was they left through the window. Anyone know what that was all about?
