Supporting Cast: Hiraeth – Shameless
Season 7 of Shameless premiered on Sunday, 10/2/2016. In the first episode, “Hiraeth,” we were brought up to date on the current status of Frank Gallagher and his offspring, Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and Liam, who would all like to be permanently estranged from the paterfamilias but can’t seem to pull it off. The recap of all that is here.
Kevin and Veronica, who helped try to rid the Gallagher kids of their toxic father in the Season 6 finale, continued to live polyamorously with Svetlana, jack of all trades (including prostitution) who now turns out to be a mathematical genius turned financial planner. Between them they have three children. Kev and V’s twins (Amy and Gemma) and Svetlana’s boy, Evgeny. Mickey Milkovitch, who we assume is still in jail, is his father. Kev, you may recall, also has a son with his mother-in-law, Carol Fisher, so we’ll probably see them at some point this season, too.
Abena Ansah played Jolayemi, Debbie’s night nurse. Jolayemi got quite an eyeful on her first day of work when Fiona forcibly dragged Frank down the stairs and threw him out the front door while she was holding her new charge, baby Franny. Jolayemi is getting $20 an hour to take care of Franny while Debbie gets some sleep. She doesn’t know that she’s getting paid with stolen money!
Nathaniel K. Dorsey played the homeless guy who was sniffing glue with Frank after that. Of course, Frank was so preoccupied with his own problems that he failed to notice that homeless guy was really not capable of listening to his ramblings anymore.
Alicia Coppola played Sue DeLeon, Ian’s partner at work. When Ian confided his fears that Caleb was being unfaithful, Sue told him how she stalked her man on Valentine’s Day and found out he was married. She kicked his a$$ and he divorced his wife and married her. She even looked up statistics for Ian and informed him that 50% of gay men cheat so if he isn’t cheating, Caleb is.
Tate Ellington played Chad. He’s not the owner of Patsy’s, but he is upper management. He is interviewing people for the manager job that Fiona is temporarily filling now that Sean is gone for good (we hope). Chad gave Fiona a $1.00 an hour raise to keep managing the place till he gets it together. He can’t be the love interest for Fiona this season, can he? Isn’t that a wedding ring on Chad’s finger?
Perhaps it is this guy then. His name is Cody (played by John Hennigan) and he invited Fiona to a Radiohead concert. She blew him off claiming she has a boyfriend. Just saying… why would they give a random customer a name?
