Final Jeopardy: Greek Mythology (11-13-15)
The Final Jeopardy question (11/13/2015) in the category “Greek Mythology” was:
Famous mother of Pyrrha, who survived the great flood and with her husband repopulated the earth.
It’s Quarter-final No. 5 in the 2015 Tournament of Champions, featuring 6x champ Alex Jacob vs 5x champ Scott Lord vs. 3x champ Michael Bilow. By the end of this match, we will know all 5 semi-finalists and all 4 wild cards for sure.
Round 1: Scott found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Writing Your Own Name” under the $1,000 clue before the first break, as you probably figured someone would when they were picking all the bottom row clues first. He was in third place with $600, $2,200 less than Michael’s lead. He bet the $1,000 allowance, as you also probably figured he would, and he was RIGHT.
A study finds that people who put the dots to the left of their I’s and J’s tend to habitually do this, from the Latin “cras” meaning “tomorrow”. show
Alex finished in the lead with $7,200. Scott and Michael were tied with $3,000 each.
Round 2: Alex found the first Daily Double in “Deserts” under the $1,600 clue on his second pick. He was in the lead with $8,400, now, $5,400 more than Scott and Michael. He bet $5,600 and he was RIGHT.
The name of this desert of the Middle East is from the Hebrew for “dry”. show
Michael found the last Daily Double in “Time Magazine’s Person of the Year” under the $1,600 clue shortly after that. He was now in third place by himself with $4,200, $11,800 behind Alex in the lead. He made it a true Daily Double and thought it was Larry Flynt. That was WRONG.
1991: This mouthy media mogul. show
Alex finished with a runaway $26,800. Scott was next with $10,200 and Michael was in third place with $8,400.
NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
“PANDORA was the very first woman who was formed out of clay by the gods. The Titan Prometheus had originally been assigned with the task of creating man. But because he was displeased with their lot, stole fire from heaven. Zeus was angered, and commanded Hephaistos and the other gods to create a woman, Pandora…. Pandora’s daughter Pyrrha (Fire) was the first-born mortal child. She and her husband Deukalion alone survived the Great Deluge.” (Theoi Greek Mythology)
Michael wrote down Thisbe. He bet and lost it all.
Scott thought it was Demeter. He lost $4,000 and finished with $6,200.
Alex wrote down Gaea. He lost $143 and finished with $26,657. As Trebek said, it didn’t matter. He already had won the last semi-final spot.
So the final results of the first week of the 2015 TOC are:

47/61 here, wasn’t that hard I guess.
@VJ, Matt made a mention of Fikkle Fame on his Facebook page.
Cool 🙂
Anyone interested in seeing more of Alex can search on YouTube for him and poker.
You will see why they called him Fro-pro.
at least one should get this fj. 7:21p
nm.. Thought it was Gaea.
Seem like one would know their Greek mythology.
ABC was also showing coverage of the Paris tragedy at 7:45PM EST or so, but the local CBS and Fox stations weren’t breaking in for news here.
NBC cut into J!(or WOF) where they aired at 7:30PM EST on the East Coast for a report on the Paris tragedy. MIchael was answering the Ted Turner DD wrong at the time.
I’m with the contestants on today’s fj. It’s all Greek to me.
I’ve heard of Pandora’s Box but nothing about Pyrrha being her daughter.
I like the 9 TOC players for next week. Good players imo. Next week will be exciting.
That’s how I felt about that PC fj on Wednesday.
Good playing to:
Kristin Sausville
Greg Seroka
Scott Lord
Eliott Yates
Jennifer Giles
Michael Bilow
Just wondering for next week. I already know what everybody’s results are like if they go home with 10K or move on to the finals. I just wanna know what Matt’s score is in the semis.
Just saying, so don’t tell me if you know.
I agree with you Leena. No one should be a spoiler and ruin things for any of us.
I hope Alex Jacob beats the Matt guy and you would be happy.
