New champ, Andy King won $20,200 in yesterday’s match. Today he takes on these two players: Mags Doss, from Atlanta, GA; and Tara Anderson, from Louisville, KY.
Alex Trebek announced that this was the last game of the season and that today’s winner would get a 6-week rest until the new season resumes. He also said that they will be showing “six weeks of some of our special tournaments” during the break.
Round 1: Tara got the Jeopardy! round Daily Double, the very last clue of the round, in “The Old Sod” under the $1,000 clue. She was in the lead with $5,200, $1,600 more than Mags in second place. She bet $3,000 and thought it was Cork. That was WRONG.

Mags finished in the lead with $3,600. Tara was second with $2,200 and Andy was last with $1,600.
Round 2: Tara found the first Daily Double in “Slogans” under the $1,200 clue on the third pick of the round. She was in second place with $3,400 now, $200 less than Mags in the lead. She bet $1,500 and she was RIGHT.
No Pasaran, “They shall not pass”, was a loyalist slogan during this 20th century war. show
Andy found the last Daily Double in “Critterature” under the $2,000 clue. In third place lead with $6,400, he had $2,900 less than Tara’s lead. He bet $2,000 and thought it was Dr. Jekyll. That was WRONG.

Mags finished in the lead with $13,200. Tara was next with $10,500 and Andy was in third place with $7,200.
TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

Andy got it right. He bet it all and finished with $14,400.
Tara also got it. She bet $7,000. That brought her up to $17,500.
Mags didn’t have anyone so he lost his $7,801 bet. That left him with $5,399 and made Tara the new champ.
Tara Anderson is a public radio reporter. During the chat, she told Alex Trebek about a sunburn she got in Greece– all over on a nude beach. “It was terrible,” she said after noting that her mother was going to be embarrassed. Trebek said he wouldn’t ask her anything else in deference to her mother.

These are the rules? 1. It’s OK to not phrase as a question in first round (Alex didn’t even comment on it today). 2. It’s OK to mispronounce in verbal rounds (Alex corrected legerdeman to legerdemain today). 3. It’s not OK to misspell in Final Jeopardy if it alters pronunciation.
That’s pretty much the way I understand the rules, but there are other things the players get dinged for. That is what I usually refer to a reversal as in a recap and I did a search on that word and came up with a bunch. The first one was when Scott Lord’s answer Sharpova was reversed because he should have said Sharapova.
You reminded me of a post on accepted and not accepted misspellings that needs updating. I just put the Scheherazade ruling on there.
I could make a tag for dinged but it won’t show when people are called wrong on the spot for stuff like leaving off or adding an S.
Well, I didn’t get the weird FJ at the beginning of the year and I didn’t get it tonight either. I loved the Critterature category title — very creative.
So no tie break, but at least we finished the season with a woman champ – an always welcome change.

You know how I like to know what nicknames stand for– I looked him up and his real name is Maged (Egyptian var. of Majid)

On the critterature, incidentally I just read “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” Though I’m not a dog person, the book grabbed me in ways I didn’t expect.
LOL, the infamous anatomy category. There have been some real doozies this season and that was surely one of them.
THe only six weeks of non-regular games this season were the TofC, Teacher’s tourney, Kids’ week, and celeb week. Those are presumably the six weeks that get rerun.

Officially, ToC from today through 8/14, Kids Week from 8/17 through 8/21, Celebrity from 8/24 through 8/28, and Teachers’ Tourney from 8/31 through 9/11.
@Jacob, congrats on your prediction, my friend. A nice way to finish the season.
While watching, when Tara failed to pick up on the limerick format of that DD, I didn’t think she would get it. Then none of them picked up on the proclamation hint for Emancipation Day and I didn’t know what to think. But if they showed them the clue the way it first showed up on my screen, I’m sure that helped.
@Andy, your Dr. Jekyll answer had a far-reaching consequence. Robert Louis Stevenson rolled over in his grave in Samoa. (H.G. Wells’ cremains were scattered at sea.)

Well, I wonder this many things:
Tournaments for break, new opening slide, CC winner, (obviously) about the contestants, how I’ll keep track of days of the week (got Mon., Fri. Sat., and Sun. covered), and finally, who’ll win the next ToC! Michael Bilow’s who I’m rooting for, NoMatterWhat!!!
I didn’t even realize that I came back, literally A DAY before the season finale. I honestly had no idea. Bye, fikklers! See ya in September!
