Out of Africa: 1985 Best Picture

“Out of Africa” won 7 Oscars at the 58th Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, but it did not win any of the acting Oscars. The other Best Picture contenders were: “The Color Purple”, “Kiss of the Spider Woman”, “Prizzi’s Honor” and “Witness”.

The Best Actor Oscar went to William Hurt as Luis Molina in “Kiss of the Spider Woman.” Geraldine Page won Best Actress for her role as Mrs. Watts in “The Trip to Bountiful.”
Supporting acting Oscars went to Don Ameche (“Cocoon”) and Anjelica Huston (“Prizzi’s Honor”).
