Today’s Final Jeopardy question (7/3/2014), in the category “Famous Objects” was:

New champ Christi Esterle won $11,999 in yesterday’s game. Her opponents in her second game are: Beverly Garcia, from Quincy, MA; and Jeff Versteeg, from Cleveland, OH.
Round 1: Christi found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Glory Days” under the $800 clue. She was in the lead with $4,800, $1,600 more than Jeff in second place. She bet $1,000 and guessed Vietnam. That was WRONG.

Christi finished in the lead with $3,800. Jeff was second with $3,200 and Beverly was last with $1,400.
Round 2: Beverly found the first Daily Double in “Colleges & Universities” under the $1,200 clue. She was in third place with $2,600, $1,200 less than Christi’s lead. She bet $1,000 and she was RIGHT.

Jeff found the last Daily Double in “Scientific Non-American” under the $1,600 clue. In the lead with $6,000, he had $600 more than Christi in second place. He bet $2,500, and he was RIGHT.
This English astronomer died on Jan. 14, 1742 at age 85; that’s 9 years longer than we might have expected. show
Christi finished in the lead with $12,200. Jeff was next with $11,700 and Beverly was in third place with $6,000.
Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

The “sacrilege at Westminister” was made into a film, “Stone of Destiny” (2008), starring Charlie Cox, Kate Mara, Gavin McCole, Ciaron Kelly and Robert Carlyle. It was directed by actor Charles Martin Smith (Ray Bob in 1978’s “Buddy Holly Story”).
The Stone is also sometimes called the Coronation Stone and Jacob’s Pillow or Pillar, believed to be the pillow that Jacob laid his head on to sleep in the Book of Genesis, Chapter 28.
Beverly thought it was the Hope Diamond. She bet and lost it all.
Jeff came up with ‘the royal jewels”. He only lost $501 and finished with $11,199.
Christi got it right (Stone of Scone). She bet $12,000 so she won her second match with $24,200. Her 2-day total is $36,199.

John, I’m not sure that Jesse is coming back to answer questions, so I’ll tell you what I observed from the tapings. First, the whole game goes about as fast as it can. When Alex leads to a commercial, there is no break in the game. The same thing is true for FJ: the show the clue, there is maybe ten seconds, they make the wagers (I saw no calculating implements of any kind), then the Aleve thing, then boom what you see is what is there.
The whole experience is pretty intense. If you’re in LA, and the timing is right, I highly suggest it.

You’re welcome. I’ve tried before to make the point that the game is very fast. It would be easy to get caught up in a fast pace. That’s one reason that I don’t think students do well: not enough of the old life seasoning. If you look at Jesse’s game, he could’ve had about 7500 by not using his buzzer. So, you’re right about the quick buzzers on one hand, but on another, the game must fly by. That’s why I am such an advocate on having the game theory down cold before you go in.

5 winners in 4 days and 15 contestants in 4 days already??? your tally says 5 winners total and 15 contestants total. do you know who will win tomorrow? i’m a little confused. in 4 days (including today,thurday) there should be only 4 winners and 12 contestants so far. somehow there seems to be a knot in my brain?

Ok. Before Marilyn reads this, yes, I was wrong. Since there were four guys, and one won and returned, the males were one for five, hence the women were four for ten (if no ties tomorrow).

So, Christi was introduced as a librarian/stay at home mom today. Yesterday she was introduced as a stay at home mom only. This is why I stated that if I ever appeared on Jeopardy I would say that I am a gardener. If you lose then no one will expect better. But since Christi won yesterday she probably figured it was safe to throw in the librarian title today. Smart thinking my dear. Congratulations on your second win. Good strategy.
On yesterday’s show Christi was introduced at the top of the show as a librarian and stay-at-home mom. My husband commented that she must have a library in her home. When Alex interviewed her, he said she was a stay-at-home mom. She was not hiding her profession.
