Yordan Alvarez Blasts His MLB Leading 11th Homer of the Year, Astros Beat Guardians

Houston slugger Yordan Alvarez hit a two run home run to account for all the scoring in the Astros’ 2-0 win over the Guardians in Cleveland on April 22nd. Alvarez had three of Houston’s (10-16) six hits in the game. It was just the third road win in 13 games for the Astros, who are trying to climb out of last place in the American League West.

Although his club is off to a slow start, Yordan Alvarez is not. Besides leading the majors in home runs, he also leads in RBIs with 26, on base percentage (.466), slugging (.779), OPS (1.245), and is second in batting average (.347). Last season, Alvarez played in just 48 games due to injuries, but from 2021-2024 he had no fewer than 31 homers and 86 RBIs in any of those four seasons. He missed almost all of the 2020 Covid shortened season, but was AL Rookie of the Year in 2019, when he hit .313, with 27 homers and 78 RBIs in just 87 games. With his injuries behind him, he will be counted on as a big part of the Astros’ offense going forward this season.
