Ben found the first Daily Double in “Boy Genius” under the $1,600 clue on the 3rd pick of the round. He was in the lead with $7,600, $200 more than Jared in second place. Ben bet $4,000 and he was RIGHT.

WHAT IS “THE PERSIANS”?
The Persians (472 BCE) is the first surviving work of Aeschylus, believed to be the oldest surviving play in the history of theatre. Aeschylus, aka the father of Greek tragedy, wrote about the Battle of Salamis in “The Persians”. It is said to be the second part of a trilogy. The other two parts are lost, but the first part was about the Battle of Marathon in the Greco-Persian Wars. Aeschuylus and his brother both fought the Persians in the Battle of Marathon. His brother perished but Aeschuylus survived and fought at Salamis. “The Persians” is also believed to be the first Western play with a dream sequence involving Darius the Great, Xerxes’ dead father. He blames his son for the Persians’ defeat, claiming Xerxes angered the gods by trying to build a bridge over the Hellespont.
It seems more than a little crazy that only 7 of Aeschylus’ works have survived, when he is said to have written over 80 plays. He was no spring chicken when he produced “The Persians”, having been actively writing for at least two decades. The other surviving tragedies attributed to Aeschuylus are: Seven Against Thebes, The Suppliants, the trilogy known as The Oresteia (the three tragedies Agamemnon, The Libation Bearers and The Eumenides), and (although disputed) Prometheus Bound.
Jared promoted the online test. He bet nothing so he finished with $3,600.
Ike went with the Spartans. He bet and lost his whole $10,400. (Why, Ike, why?)
Ben thought it was the censors. He lost $5,601 but won the game with the remaining $9,599. We’ll be seeing Ben Chan in the finals.

Knew the Benson Bridge clue (but didn’t know its actual name) because it’s less than an hour from my home and I’ve been on it numerous times.
Glad to see how others feel about Ike’s wager. $0 would have locked out Jared, and Ben was more or less forced to wager $5601 or more.
Well, that’s an intellectual FJ. I didn’t get it. I know the story about the eagle and turtle, but nothing else.
Ike did acquit himself well. As VJ says, it’s too bad he wasn’t more canny on his wager!
Mumbling Ben continued his, well, mumbling.
In the double letter category, the museum for the blown instrument is about 2 miles from my house! They make and sell them there, beyond just showing off.
When I Googled kazoo museum just now, all of the top listings were for one in Beaufort, SC. Not until I reached the bottom did I see the one in Eden, NY. I was born in upstate NY and went to college there, but not familiar with Eden. Must be near Buffalo, based on its ZIP.
Yes, it’s south. If I could post a pic here, I’d show you a town line photo.
Interestingly, about 6-7 years ago, there was a backdoor pilot for FBI Most Wanted that had a storyline in East Eden, NY. That’s a real place!
I immediately came up with ‘The Persians’ for FJ, but I thought that was just way too easy. Instead, I went for ‘The Mongolians’. Oh well!
That was a tough final as we got another triple stumper since today’s final wasn’t kind to anybody.
Oh man, I was so hoping Ike didn’t bet anything. He should have realized he couldn’t win if Ben was right so he had nothing to lose by standing pat. Oy vey!
I was just watching Rock and Roll High School last weekend with the Ramones, so Joey’s high altitude was fresh in my mind.
Although the Ramones were all about my age, and one lived down the block, I never knew any of them. One of my HS classmates was in an early band (Tangerine Puppets) with a couple of them.
Actually VJ, the finals of the TOC is the best of seven series. Just like last year, they did the GOAT format and the first player with three wins is the winner of the TOC and will earned a coveted spot in the Primetime Masters.
Ugh 😲 and then there’s yet another tournament after that, right?
Yes, they have the JIT Tournament where we invite 27 players from the past compete. It will most likely begin after the TOC around March 29-April 12. Then, the regular shows return possibly on April 15 with new contestants. That’s what I found out according to the Inside Jeopardy Podcast.
