Marlins Set Club Record for Victories before the All-Star Break
Yuli Gurriel scored on a ninth inning throwing error as the Miami Marlins came form behind to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10-9 July 5th. The Marlins improved to 51-37 on the season; they are in second place in the N.L. East, behind the Atlanta Braves.
The Marlins were just swept in a three game set with the Braves in Atlanta, and will have a tough time catching them. But Miami is in great shape for a Wild Card berth. As the then Florida Marlins, the club won World Series titles in 1997 and 2003. Both times they finished second in the N.L East behind the Braves. The victory over St. Louis broke a Marlins’ franchise record for wins before the All Star Break. With the club’s history, a second place finish in the division behind the Braves probably doesn’t faze the Marlins.
