TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
WHAT IS PAKISTAN?
The CIA World Factbook puts the official religion of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at 96.5% of its estimated 2023 population (247,653,551). Only the Republic of Indonesia has a larger Muslim population. Two other Asian countries use “Islamic” in their official names: Afghanistan and Iran. Mauritania in Northwestern Africa also uses the religious designation. The Gambia’s long-time dictator Yahya Jammeh added Islamic to the country’s official name in 2015 but Adama Barrow changed it back to just Republic when he became President in 2017.
Islamabad is the country’s 9th-most populous city, with a population of over 1.2 million people. Built in the 1960s, it was designed by Greek architect Constantinos Apostolou Doxiadis and replaced Rawalpindi as the national capital. Its Wikipedia entry says: “The city is notable for its high standards of living, safety, cleanliness, and abundant greenery.”
Ilhana got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $9,200.
Jared also got it. He added $2,400 to his score to finish with $14,000.
Eva thought it was Oman (capital: Muscat). She lost $5,599 and finished with $10,601. That made Jared Watson the new Jeopardy champ.

Odd game to say the least. Ilhana was strong in the first round, virtually silent in the 2nd. Sarah was the best player all the way through, until Jared made his comeback from negative land. How he got that tough “mega” DD and not the 2 easier ones is beyond me. (“Clockmaker” and ‘colonial militiamen” all but spelled it out.)
“Islamabad” immediately came to mind, but just didn’t connect it with the name of the country. And they accepted “Pakistan” even though that didn’t completely match what the clue requested. I guess “current country” superseded “full name.”
Another night of killer stumpers, except for the city of 20 million/kidnappings, and the horse racing system of weights.
It looks like Ilhana didn’t get any correct answers guessed during the Double Jeopardy round.
We almost got our third daily double skunking of the season.
