WHAT IS MOROCCO?
Back in the days of the Roman Empire, the northern part of what is now Morocco was known as Mauretania Tingitana (Latin for “Tangerine Mauretania”). Tingis, the capital of this Roman province, is now Tangier. According to the New World Encyclopedia, the full Arabic name of the Kingdom of Morocco is Al-Mamlaka al-Maghribiya (The Western Kingdom). “Al Maghrib (meaning The West) is commonly used. Historians used to refer to Morocco as Al Maghrib al Aqşá (The Furthest West), referring to its location at the northwestern tip of the continent, bordering both the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.”

Jake bet it all, doubling his score to $24,800.
Melissa bet $401 (“the perfect bet,” said Ken), and she won the game with $24,801. Melissa Klapper is the new Jeopardy! champ.

I knew FJ from a friend from med school. I don’t speak Arabic, but, for some reason I don’t recall, I said “maharib”, which is “West”, but she told me “Maghreb” was Morocco!
@Jacob, what a funny coincidence that the first half of the answer to the “Me” clue no one got was the Wordle solution on St. Paddy’s Day! I had mentioned that Scarlett O’Hara used the word to describe Melanie in GWTW, although in a way that didn’t match the clue’s definition:
“A body part is found in this word describing one who refuses to tell the truth in plain language”
I didn’t get it!! 🤣
VJ, You’re right about the St. Patrick’s Day word. What a coincidence!
Good, competitive game with mostly answerable clues and few stumpers. I did get the “England Slept” one. Impressive how all 3 got the final; Spain was all I could think of with its association with Moors. Not too far off, as it turned out.
Melissa’s quick math cost her a likely runaway on that last DD.
Doesn’t seem to happen as frequently nowadays, but giant-killers like Kelly used to go down regularly in their 2nd game. Ken Jennings surely remembers that.
Hmmmm……I didn’t know that Morocco was a province of the Roman empire, but I sure do now. Anyways, I’m glad that all three of the contestants got FJ right.
