Jaguars Come All the Way Back from 27 Point Deficit to Beat Chargers
The Jacksonville Jaguars lost in the 2017 AFC Championship game to the New England Patriots, and since then they were 5-11, 6-10, 1-15, and last year, 3-14. This year they were 9-8 and won the AFC South, returning to the playoffs for the first time in five years.
In the first half of their playoff game against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Jaguars fell behind 27-0. Jacksonville QB Trevor Lawrence threw four interceptions. Lawrence did throw a touchdown pass to Evan Engram with 24 seconds left in the first half to make it 27-7 at half time, but it seemed like this would be a case of a team making the playoffs for the first time in years, but having to wait longer to win and advance in the post season.
But in the second half, Jacksonville held Los Angeles to just one field goal and Lawrence stopped throwing interceptions. The former #1 overall draft pick threw three touchdown passes and engineered a drive late in the fourth quarter that ended when Riley Patterson kicked a 36 yard field goal as time ran out to give the Jaguars a 31-30 come from behind victory. It’s the largest comeback in franchise history and the third largest comeback in playoff history. It sends the Jaguars into the Divisional Round and the Chargers home, wondering how this happened.
