Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray Throws 3 TD passes, Runs for 2 More in 49-21 Win Over UCLA

With 2017 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Baker Mayfield in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, how is his successor at Oklahoma doing?

Quite well, thank you. Junior Kyler Murray took over under center this year. Murray is quite an athlete; he was drafted ninth overall by baseball’s Oakland Athletics as an outfielder. Murray signed a five year deal for $5 million with Oakland but he was allowed to come back to Oklahoma and play quarterback this year. In the Sooners opening game victory over Florida Atlantic, Murray completed nine of 11 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns in a 63-14 victory; he only played in the first half of the blowout.

In Oklahoma’s second game of the season against UCLA on September 8th, Murray was a one man wrecking crew. He passed for 303 yards and three touchdowns, plus he rushed 10 times for 69 yards and two more touchdowns as the sixth ranked Sooners beat the Bruins 49-21.

If Murray keeps playing like this, they’ll be mentioning him as a Heisman candidate. Murray may be called on to do even more, as top running back Rodney Anderson went down with a leg injury.

The Sooners will play at Iowa State on September 15th. Last year, the Cyclones handed Oklahoma its only regular season loss, winning 38-31 in Norman.
