6x champ Ray Lalonde, a scenic artist from Toronto, Ontario, has now won $166,200. In Game 7, his competitors are: Rebecca Triano, a chemistry lecturer from Lambertville, NJ; and Ardi Mendoza, an emergency medicine resident from New York, NY.

Round 2 Categories: Native American History – Around Asia – Biological Processes – All Stars – 5-Letter Words – Rian Johnson Loves a Whodunit

WHO IS EVANGELINE?

From Longfellow’s Most Famous Poems: “‘Evangeline, a Tale of Acadie’ (1847) is an epic poem…. Evangeline Bellefontaine is an Acadian girl forced to leave her homeland during the time the British kicked the Acadians out of Canada. She is separated from her true love Gabriel Lajeunesse and searches for him in vain in America. By the time she finds him, she is an old lady….. It’s tragic.”

Evangeline made this list of 12 Baby Girl Names Inspired by Poetry and, as you may expect, so did Annabel from one of Poe’s lost loves, Annabel Lee. (Lenore didn’t make it.) It’s a mystery to me why they never put Helen on these lists. Poe’s poem “To Helen” gave us the famous lines “the glory that was Greece and the grandeur that was Rome.”

Rebecca thought it was Isolde. She lost $5,000 and finished with $1,400.

Ardi came up with Bronte. That cost him $10,000 and left him with $3,200.

Ray got it right. He added $6,300 to his score and won the game with $26,500. Ray’s 7-day total is $192,700.

I like the question about ‘The Thin Man’ because too many questions are geared toward the younger crowd. I like a question that can really only be answered by a person over 60 or a younger person who knows entertainment history. Too bad there aren’t more questions like that.

Finally hit a FJ after 4 strikeouts. And nailed several of the stumpers too. Probably fitting because today is the 35th anniversary of my one-off appearance on the show. One bad missed guess on a big-$ clue in double Jeopardy cost me $10400 and a return visit. I was running the US States category, including a DD, and took a chance on the bottom clue, which I’ve long regretted. Had just under half of what the champ had, so it was moot when I bet it all and hit FJ but still lost by a little bit when she missed FJ. My “prize” was a trip to the Bahamas, which I waived because of taxes and travel terms it came with. Great experience, though, and I was one of the first 1500-1600 to make it onto the current version of the show. This was in the dark ages when there was a 5-win limit and clues were worth half what they are now.
