Louise Fletcher Shuns Nurse Ratched

Actress Louise Fletcher tells the press that she can’t watch the film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975) because of her own portrayal of the rotten Nurse Ratched. In fact, she did such a great job as the tyrannical head nurse, at the Salem, Oregon State mental hospital, that she won Best Actress.

“I find it too painful,” said Fletcher, 78. “It comes with age. I can’t watch movies that are inhumane.”

Guess that means that she doesn’t watch “Flowers in the Attic” (1987) either. In that film, Fletcher played the evil grandmother who forced her daughter (played by Victoria Tennant) to keep her children locked up in the attic. The daughter turned out to be less than a stellar mother, but look who raised her.

And how about Grammy Gallagher in Shameless? Grammy was a real piece of work!

Let’s face it, Louise, you do villains well.
