WHAT IS “DON’T STOP BELIEVIN'”?

In a 2016 interview with Songfacts, Jonathan Cain related how his father inspired Journey’s iconic rock anthem when he was struggling in Hollywood in the mid-70. He asked his dad if he should throw in the towel. His father replied, “No, son. Stay the course. We have a vision. It’s gonna happen. Don’t stop believin’.” Jonathan preserved that message in a notebook. Years later, after joining Journey, he wrote the song’s chorus and collaborated with Steve Perry and Neal Schon on the rest. It was Perry’s idea to keep the chorus till the end of the song.

Kelly drew a blank. She didn’t bet anything so she remained at $7,400.

Daniel came up with “Keep on Rocking.” He lost everything except a dollar.

Tanya got it right. Yes, she did put a “g” in Believin’ but it’s been accepted in the past. See Final Jeopardy in the 3/25/2013 game where two responses of “Singing in the Rain” were accepted for “Singin’ in the Rain.”

Tanya’s $12,605 bet gave her a win of $28,405 today and a 2-day total of $63,210.

Thanks to whoever decided to include that video. Love Journey, well really I love Steve Perry. Took me back.

  2. Lou says:

Congrats to Tanya on her second win and if this keeps up she could amass a big total just like Michael Bilow and Philip Tiu and Andrew Pau did. Glad that the manchester attack didn’t preempt this game. Furthermore don’t stop believing will always be my favorite song. What are your favorite rock and roll songs, VJ?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, that’s a hard question for me to answer. I like so many songs that I don’t have one ultimate favorite. Just suppose I had a bunch of records or an mp3 playlist that I could rearrange the order of — my favorites would be the ones I wanted to listen to first that day. I like 50s and 60s rock best so I would definitely put Wild Thing, Long Tall Sally and The Letter on way before Don’t Stop Believin’

Shake Rattle and Roll, too. I love that song — “I’m like a one-eyed cat peepin’ in a seafood store”

That clue in Know Your Nose about the little thing under it reminded me of that Ya Mama Dear song. I don’t suppose they would accept “soup strainer” lol!!
