Yoenis Cespedes Takes One High and Tight, Hits Next One Out of the Park

Boston Red Sox slugger Yoenis Cespedes and Cincinnati Reds hard throwing relief pitcher Jonathan Broxton were playing the game the way it used to be played in the eighth inning of the teams’ contest in Cincinnati on August 12th. Broxton didn’t want Cespedes to get too comfortable and sent a high hard one under his chin to get him to back off the plate a little. Unfazed, Cespedes smashed the next pitch way, way out to deep center field for a 433 foot home run.

Cespedes didn’t point or threaten Broxton, and the pitcher didn’t throw a tantrum after the home run. There were no “unwritten rules” about “disrespecting” anyone or anything, and there was no bench clearing followed by pushing and shoving. Cespedes and Broxton were facing each other as major league players doing their jobs, and Cespedes won this one.

Speaking of sluggers, the Houston Astros’ Chris Carter has been red hot since the beginning of July, with 15 home runs, including two in Houstons’ 10-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on August 12th. These two homers had one of those you-don’t-see-this-everyday things in that both home runs were caught by the same fan. That’s worth a look:
