Yankees Take Two of Three From Twins in High Offense Series

The July 22nd-24th three game New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins series matched the A.L. East leaders against the A.L Central leaders, both of whom have some prolific hitters in their lineups. Those expecting a lot of offense were not disappointed.

In the opener, the Twins blasted five home runs and the Yankees belted three themselves as the Twins won 8-6. The Twins defense also a triple play in the game. In Game 2 on the 23rd, New York’s Didi Gregorius had five hits, including a home run, and seven RBIs as the Yankees outslugged the Twins in a 14-12, 10 inning win. Minnesota’s Miguel Sano had an impressive day at the plate, too, hitting a pair of homers and driving in five runs. Yankees’ centerfielder Aaron Hicks had the defensive gem of the game, making a diving catch in the bottom of the 10th to seal the victory.

In the series finale, Gregorius drove in three runs and New York got three solo home runs en route to a 10-7 victory. The Twins had three homers in the contest as well. Minnesota’s Nelson Cruz hit a home run in each game of the series.

At the close of play on the 24th, the Yankees (66-35) held a 10 game lead in the A.L. East, while the Twins (61-40) were down to a two game lead over the Cleveland Indians. The Twins have lost seven of 10 while the Indians have won eight of 10. Minnesota’s bullpen has been imploding of late, and the team is making personnel changes there. Expect them to be actively looking for bullpen help with the trade deadline approaching.
