Giants Win Pennant on Travis Ishikawa’s Home run

The San Francisco Giants are settling into a pattern of World Series appearances every other year. The Giants, who won World Series in 2010 and 2102, eliminated the St. Louis Cardinals on October 16th when Travis Ishikawa hit a three run home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 6-3. The Giants dispatched the Cardinals four games to one.

While San Francisco fans celebrate the Giants’ 20th N.L. Championship, Cardinals fans will be wondering why manager Mike Matheny opted to pitch Michael Wacha in this situation. Wacha was making his first post season appearance this year, and had not pitched in 20 days.

The Giants will take on the Kansas City Royals in Game 1 of the World Series on October 21st in Kansas City. Both teams made it to the post season as Wild Cards. The Giants and Royals played a three game interleague series in Kansas City back in August, with the Royals sweeping all three games.
