Yankees Beat Blue Jays for 10th Straight Win

Gleyber Torres drove in a run in the top of the ninth inning of a 2-2 game to give the New York Yankees a 3-2 victory over the Blue Jays in Toronto on May 2nd. Torres had driven in the other New York runs with a two run homer off Jays’ starter Ross Stripling in the fourth inning.

The victory was the Yankees’ 10th straight. New York improved to 17-6 on the season, and leads the American League East, with Toronto (15-9) two and a half games back. Tampa Bay (13-10) is four games back, with the surprisingly bad Boston Red Sox off to a horrible 9-14 record, just a game ahead of hapless Baltimore (8-15). Last year, the Red Sox were a Wild Card in the playoffs, with a 92-70 record. While there is plenty of time to turn that around, New York, Tampa Bay, and Toronto are formidable opponents in a tough division, and with 57 games against those three teams, it will be an uphill struggle. The Red Sox are just 5-11 against their East opponents.

The Yankees are at Toronto for two more games before returning home to face the Texas Rangers. They will then host Toronto for two games May 10th and 11th.
