Yankees and Dodgers Will Meet in the World Series for the 12th Time

Tommy Edman opened the 2024 season on the St. Louis Cardinals’ injured list, and didn’t see any action until after he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the end of July. In 37 games with Los Angeles, he hit .237 with six homers and 20 RBIs. On October 20th, Edman drove in four runs with a double and a home run to lead the Dodgers to a 10-5 win over the New York Mets in Game Six of the National League Championship Series in Los Angeles. With that, the Dodgers won the series 4-2 and won the franchise’s 22nd National League Pennant, and Edman became the latest player to emerge as an unlikely post season hero. Edman is hitting .341 with a homer and 12 RBIs in 11 post season games.

The Dodgers will play the New York Yankees in the World Series. These two clubs are meeting for the 12th time, going back to 1941 when the Dodgers were in Brooklyn. While this matchup has happened the most times in major league history, it’s the first meeting between the two since 1981. The Yankees have won eight of the previous 11 World Series between the two, with victories in 1941, ’47, ’49, ’52, ’53, ’56, ’77, and ’78, with the Dodgers winning in 1955, 1963, and 1981.

The World Series begins October 25th in Los Angeles.
