White Sox Sweep Three Game Set From Rays

After hitting rock bottom with a 3-22 record on April 25th, the Chicago White Sox are making their move. On April 28th, the White Sox completed a three game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays with a 4-2 victory in Chicago. The Sox improved to 6-22 on the season. Right hander Erick Fedde pitched 8 1/3 innings, allowing the two runs on eight hits. He improved to 2-0 with a 2.60 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings pitched. Those are all good numbers. He’s emerging as the ace of the starters, who have ERAs ranging from 5.11 to 6.83.

In the game on April 27th, Andrew Benintendi hit a pair of home runs including a game winner in the 10th inning to give the White Sox an 8-7 victory. Benintendi drove in six runs in the game. He also drove in two runs in the 4-2 victory. Perhaps he’s breaking out of a season long slump; eight of his 12 RBIs were in this Rays series, as are both his home runs. He’s hitting .204 with an on base percentage of .235. Here’s some highlights of that game:

Percentage wise, the White Sox are no longer the worst club in the majors. That dubious distinction belongs to the Miami Marlins, who have lost six in a row and are 6-23. That’s a winning percentage of .207, while Chicago is at .214. Two other clubs have not reached double figures in victories yet, and they played a two game set against each other this weekend in Mexico City. The Houston Astros, who have fallen off a cliff in the first month of the season, played the Colorado Rockies in the MLB World Tour Mexico City Series. The Astros pounded the Rockies 12-4 and 8-2 in the two games and improved to 9-19, while Colorado fell to 7-21.
