Yankees Beat Blue Jays As Rookie Aaron Judge Hits 13th Home Run

The New York Yankees beat the surprisingly bad Toronto Blue Jays 8-6 on May 3rd at Yankee Stadium and, as has been the case during this month old 2017 baseball season, rookie right fielder Aaron Judge was the star of the show. Judge blasted a 426 foot home run to center field in the 3rd inning and had two other hits. The home run was his major league leading 13th of the season.

In 25 games this season, Judge has those 13 homers, 27 RBIs, and is hitting .330 with a .433 on base percentage an OPS of 1.251. Judge is a rookie but did play in 27 games in 2016. He hit four homers and drove in 10 but was otherwise unimpressive, hitting just .179 and striking out 42 times in 82 at bats. The 6-7, 282 pound Judge is an intimidating presence at the plate.

The Yankees improved to 17-9 with the win at Toronto, good for first place in the always competitive American League East. They will play an interleague series at the Chicago Cubs over the weekend of May 5-7; the game on Sunday night May 7th will be televised on ESPN and should be a ratings winner. Wrigley Field, of course, was the scene of Babe Ruth’s called shot home run in the 1932 World Series. Let’s see if Judge will hit a home run there, too.
