White Sox’ Carlos Rodon Throws MLBs 2nd No Hitter of the 2021 Season

Chicago White Sox left hander Carlos Rodon has had an injury plagued career, including missing most of the last two years following Tommy John surgery. He got off to a good start this season, allowing two hits and striking out nine in five innings in his first game in a 6-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on April 5th. He out did himself in his next start April 14th against the Cleveland Indians.

Rodon had a perfect game going with one out in the ninth, when he hit Roberto Perez in the foot with a pitch for the first Cleveland baserunner of the game. As it turned out, Perez was the only Cleveland baserunner of the game, as Rodon retired the next two batters to preserve the no-hitter, the 20th no hitter in White Sox history, and an 8-0 victory.

Through his first two starts, Rodon is 2-0 and has allowed no runs and just two hits and three walks while striking out 16 (he does have three hit batsmen). At age 28, with his surgically repaired arm in apparently great shape, Rodon’s best years may be starting now.
