TV and Movie Recommendations
I thought I’d resurrect this post in case anyone wants to talk about what streaming services they are currently using and/or make some viewing recommendations
Sometimes you watch a movie, a TV show or a series that you think is really great. Don’t keep it to yourself! Share it with us here. We’re always on the lookout for something good to watch. Comments on something you thought was a complete waste of time are welcome, too, so we know what to avoid.
The last streaming service I recommended was Pluto.tv. It has many channels dedicated to popular TV series, past and present, and plenty of movies. Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune channels were added to the lineup not too long ago.
I recently subscribed to Frndly TV, a low-cost service that has 40+ channels and 3 plans: Basic: $6.99/mo; Classic: $8.99/mo; and Premium: $10.99/mo. After the 7-day free trial, I continued with the Basic plan. When I decided to keep it permanently, I graduated to Premium. With Premium, you get 4 simultaneous screens, unlimited DVR with 9 months storage. What I like best is the 72-hour lookback feature. Whenever I miss a show for whatever reason, I can go back and watch it or record it from the start. One caveat: Lookback is not available on every channel. ME TV is one but you can record shows on that channel.
Frndly TV does not come with local channels. We don’t care. We also have Xfinity and an antenna hooked up to a Roku TV. Even if the internet goes out, we can watch local channels.
MOVIE RECOMMENDATIONS:
Here are a couple of movies I recently watched:
“Duel in the Sun” (1946) starring Jennifer Jones, Gregory Peck and Joseph Cotten. I like Jones and Cotten a lot. I’m not a big Gregory Peck fan but because he plays a bad guy, I was intrigued enough to record it from Movies!TV. It was worth it.
“Bad Nanny” (2022) One of those crazy Lifetime dramas that I watch every now and then even though they often seem ridiculous. I must admit, however, I have seen crazier stuff on real crime shows.
They show a lot of movies for free on the Movies!TV channel, movies that IMDB sometimes recommends renting from Amazon. Here’s are some highlights from this coming week (times shown are Central):
Tue 3/21/23 5:00 am – “The Man in the Attic” is a 1953 thriller starring Jack Palance, as a boarder suspected of being Jack the Ripper. One of the IMDB user reviews calls it “Aunt Bea does London” because Frances Bavier from the “Andy Griffith” show is in it.
On Wed 3/22/23 9:30 pm – Frank Sinatra stars in “The Man with the Golden Arm”. I previously saw parts of this movie and now’s my chance to watch the whole thing.
