Usain Bolt Wins 100 Meters at World Championships in Moscow

Jamaican superstar sprinter Usain Bolt showed he is still the best there is in the 100 meters when he won the event at the track and field World Championships in Moscow on August 11th with a time of 9.77.  In the rain.  Bolt showed he was human earlier this season when he actually lost a race in Rome back in June to Justin Gatlin of the U.S., but Gatlin had to settle for second place.

Bolt lost at Worlds in 2011 on false starts.  That’s a crappy way to lose, but it happens.  He then won his second straight Olympic gold in the 100 last year in London and now he’s come full circle and regained the world championship.  While the specter of doping continues to halt track and field (American Tyson Gay failed a doping test and pulled out of the event last month, and several Jamaicans also failed drug tests) Bolt says he wins by training hard and pushing himself to be better, and not by artificial means.

How refreshing. Bolt can be a bit of showman, or showboat, but he backs it up with results and there’s no denying his accomplishments.  Track has had its share of dopers, and we hope the soport doesn’t go the way bicycle racing has with the Tour de France.  Anybody take that sport seriously anymore?
