U.S. Beats Iran to Advance at World Cup

The United States was in a win or go home situation in its final group play game at the World Cup. The U.S. opponent, Iran, needed only a draw to advance.

Christian Pulisic scored at the 38 minute mark and the U.S. defense held on through some late game Iranian pressure (plus some good luck) to win a nail biter by the score of 1-0. Pulisic crashed into the Iranian goalie while scoring the goal, and eventually left the game with what was described as an abdominal injury. His status going forward is uncertain.

The U.S. and England will advance out of Group B. The United States will play the Netherlands in the next round on December 3rd. The Netherlands, with two wins and a draw, won Group A.

Mark, Nail biter is correct. What a game. I hope Christian will be okay though.
