The Family: Shady Bridey Finds Ben’s Mom

Remarkably, Bridey drank 11 cups of coffee to build trust with Sally

Danny helped Willa come out of the closet, at least to him. A few things were taken care of in “Election Day” on the 11th episode of The Family (5-8-16). Claire got elected Governor of Maine but couldn’t even come out to thank her constituents after Willa laid a heavy duty shock on her about her “fake’ child. It does look like Willa is in for a heavy duty shock of her own next week. After copying Willa’s hard drive, Bridey had enough info on Ben’s real identity to enable her to track down Ben’s real mom, working at the White Mountain Diner, “New Hampshire’s Best.” (Remember in “Betta Male”, Ben told Claire he was born in Minnesota?)

Ben would not identify Doug as the “Bracelets” Kidnapper

The episode began with Nina Meyer interrogating Doug for as long as the law would allow her to hold him but she didn’t get anywhere. Doug only came in to tell her that she was wasting her time looking for him. He didn’t do anything. He had no info on her partner, FBI Agent Clements. Nina phoned John Warren that she needed Ben/Adam to come in to identify Doug. Ben cooperated to the extent that he gave them real words that Doug had said to him: “bracelets” and “key.” But Ben insisted Doug was not the guy.

Nina had no choice but to let Doug go. She planted a tracking device in his coat but, once again, Doug was too slick for her. He paid a kid who was skateboarding $40 to wear the coat. Can you believe that they even bothered with that one?

In the meantime, Hank was chomping at the bit waiting for the news of Doug’s arrest to break on television. He even phoned in an “anonymous” tip that Doug was in custody and Hank Asher was the one who cracked the case. When no news story came out, he confronted Nina who told him she had to let Doug go and why she didn’t have to let him go. “You cracked like an egg. He wouldn’t.”

Jane is a bigger idiot than Agent Clements thought

Agent Clements was all the while begging Doug’s gal, Jane, to cut off his thumbs when sawing off the chains that bound him didn’t work. Jane tried but she didn’t quite finish the job. As she was going to, Doug returned. He noticed the blood on her and asked her rather menacingly if she had been trying to help Clements get away. Jane lied about that and told him she had the baby. Clements really thought he was a dead duck now but she went back down to him with a phone and said Doug wasn’t going to hurt him. He just had to make a call so the cops would stop looking for him.

Willa decided that Ben had to go. She told him he was going to be sent to a boarding school in California and the press would be told he needed to be kept out of the public eye. Ben didn’t think Claire would go along with it but Willa assured him she would. Ben even offered to give her back the $10,000 she gave him when she dumped him at the bus station. Willa demanded to know if that was what her brother’s life was worth. Ben responded pitifully that she thought that was what his was worth. We’re not sure if at this point, Willa was intending to drop such a big bombshell on her mother, claiming that Ben is really the one who killed Adam. Claire already knew that Ben was lying about Doug at the lineup because she knew his lying “tell.” Claire also claimed to know Willa’s lying “tell” but we don’t think she really does.

Certainly, Danny doesn’t. He took his sister out for a few drinks and told her he knew about her and Bridey. Willa was simultaneously upset and relieved. Danny wanted Willa to take his word for it that Bridey was too shady for her. “You can do better,” was his brotherly advice. How is Danny gonna feel when he finds out that Willa is just as shady as Bridey?

Hopefully, everything will be wrapped up in the season finale next Sunday and Nina will be able to save Clements now that she found some dirt under the table. It would really stink to have a cliffhanger in a show we don’t intend to ever watch again after next week!

VJ, did you see that the show was cancelled? No surprise, really, but I wonder if everything will get wrapped up tomorrow night?

    • VJ says:

Yeah, I saw that, Rhonda. We were just talking about whether they were going to wrap it up right ourselves. Someone commented on IMDB that the show’s creator said 90% will be wrapped up and the other 10% was setting the stage for Season 2 (which I wasn’t going to watch anyway — blah!!)

So if that’s true, I guess it will be better than this one cop drama (Against the Wall, Lifetime) that got cancelled on me where there was a love triangle. No one ever got to see which guy the lady cop chose! I really liked that show too.

PS – There has been a theory floating around that Doug is really Ben’s father, and after Bridey found Sally, I was wondering if the boyfriend she talked about could have been Doug. . That’s one theory I hope is put to rest one way or the other.

Yes, having 90% of it wrapped up is way better than being left hanging. The same thing that happened to you with Against the Wall happened to me a number of years ago with a summer series called Swingtown. I think it was on CBS. It got canceled after one season with many different cliffhangers. I loved that show, what a letdown.
I hadn’t heard of the Doug/Ben theory, thanks for telling me, VJ. That hadn’t occurred to me at all.

Thanks, VJ. I must have not noticed the part where she didn’t have a phone. I think she should just bash Doug over the head with the frying pan she used on Agent Clements!

Why doesn’t Jane just call the police instead of hacking off the detective’s thumb???

She didn’t have a phone until Doug came back, Rhonda. Then you could see she was afraid of what Doug would do if he knew she was trying to help Agent Clements Hopefully, he can leave a message that his husband will realize is really a cry for help
