Texas Beats West Virginia on Late Three Pointer

The Big 12 Conference is stacked with good basketball teams–as it always is, and Texas is one of the better ones this season. The #4 ranked Longhorns have beaten then #14 North Carolina and then #3 Kansas earlier this season. The win over the Jayhawks was an 84-59 blowout in Lawrence that set a record for the biggest margin of victory ever by an opponent in the 65 year history of Allen Fieldhouse. The Longhorns’ only loss was by four points to #12 Villanova, and the team took a 9-1 record to Morgantown for a game with #14 West Virginia on January 9th.

The Mountaineers led 40-36 at the half, but Texas held West Virginia to 30 points in the second half and put it away with a three point basket by Andrew Jones with 1.8 seconds remaining to win 72-70. Jones scored 16 for Texas; the Longhorns were led in scoring by Courtney Ramey’s 19 points. Freshman Greg Brown had a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Texas improved to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the Big 12. #2 Baylor is also 4-0 in conference play (11-0 overall). Texas and Baylor were supposed to play one of their two scheduled games on December 13th, but that was postponed with no makeup date set yet. Texas will host Baylor on February 2nd, but next up is a game at home against #18 Texas Tech on January 13th.
