Sylvester Stallone’s “Rocky” Regrets

In an Instagram post on Sunday, July 17, superstar Sylvester Stallone has put his bitterness with producer Irwin Winkler on display in more ways than one. Stallone posted his artwork depicting Winkler with the body of a snake and a knife protruding from his mouth. That was accompanied by a message claiming the portrait was “VERY Flattering”. Stallone believes Winkler should give him back some of his rights to the franchise.

“I have zero ownership of ‘Rocky,” Stallone told Variety back in 2019, revealing how he wanted some kind of annuity but was told, “Hey, you got paid, so what are you complaining about?” At the same time, Variety reported that Winkler and others pointed out that Stallone made millions from the franchise.

The message he wrote to accompany the portrait of Irwin appeared to be designed to get Stallone’s fans on his side. After laying out his desire to get some rights back, Stallone wrote: “This is a painful subject that eats at my soul, because I wanted to leave something of Rocky for my children, but it’s always great hearing from the loyal fans… Keep punching.” However, it seems that if Stallone had a leg to stand on in this matter, it would have been in court before now.

It’s not clear whether the 27K+ likes on the Instagram post are from people who agree with Stallone or from people who just like the portrait.
