Supporting Cast of Horses: Ray Donovan

Here are some of the actors who appeared in “Horses” (10-1-2017) in Episode 8 of “Ray Donovan,” Season 5. The episode recap is here.

Anthony Okungbowa in Ray Donovan

May your medication work, whatever you do with it

Anthony Okungbowa played Bolaji, the man in the drugstore who filled Abby’s prescription and later refilled it for Terry. He projected such a compassionate air to Abby, sitting down to talk to her even though we didn’t get what he said with that “Horses” song drowning out the conversation. He also seemed so kind to Terry, that it made you wonder if he somehow sensed what was going on– that the pills were going to be used to end life, not ease pain.

Eff you, Ray. You don’t have to clean up this mess!

Salome Azizi played Tamar. That was some fight she put up to defend herself against Ray Donovan, who really only wanted what he said he wanted, but when you are Mossad katsa and deep under cover, you just can’t be too trusting or too careful or you could wind up being tortured in prison or dead (probably preferable to torture)!

My son sells medical marijuana for a living

Gail Borges played the lady that drove Ray home from the airport when he returned to L.A. from New York. It was rare indeed to see Ray engage in chitchat about the weather and such. Usually, he goes around saying “What?” when someone talks to him.

Other Notes:

  • The repercussions of Daryll killing the head of the FBI, aka Frank Barnes, were put off since Episode 8 took place entirely in the past. In Episode 7, Avi had to leave the country and we were anticipating Avi getting blamed for Frank’s demise since it might have been his gun that Daryll used to shoot the old boy, but it just occurred to us that Avi could conceivably come back now. He only had to leave to convince Frank that he was dead.
  • Those were Irish horses. The title under the painting that kicked off the whole Horses theme was “Cave Hill. Belfast, Ireland.” Terry got it at the Rose Bowl Flea Market for $39.00.
  • We assume the white butterfly that both Abby and Ray saw was imaginary. Strange that Ray even noticed it. Not strange that he attached no significance to it.
  • Judi Barton played Smitty’s mother, Autumn Smith, the lady in his room who said she would be coming back later. Perhaps we will see her again. It must have been heart-breaking for her to see her son get disqualified from the trial program.
