Supporting Cast of Handshake Deal: Ray Donovan

Here are some of the actors who appeared in “Handshake Deal”, the fifth episode of Season 3 of Ray Donovan.

Nestor Carbonell played Sheldon Blackwell, the law professor who had the cell phone that was going to compromise both Paige Finney and Gov. Tom Verona’s election. “Possession is 9/10th of the law,” he wisecracked to Ray and Ray reminded him of that when he physically relieved Blackwell of the phone. Melissa Carnell played the disillusioned Briana Gathright who stole the phone to get revenge on the philandering governor and David Lengel played Ted. His empty threat to mace Ray cost him his cell phone.

Bryce McBratnie played PJ, the developer of the app, KWIP. He thought that Mickey Donovan (Jon Voight) and Daryll (Pooch Hall) were rock stars and looked like a cute lesbian couple with Mickey’s white hair and Daryll’s thin little mustache. Still, he wasn’t paying for the extra $10K in coke that Daryll ordered up without asking him if he wanted it. That put Mickey and Daryll at the mercy of the Minassians. Grace Zabriskie played the Armenian crime family’s matriarch and Nikola Kent played Davros Minassian. Her grandson, we’re guessing. Somebody’s gonna get hurt real bad. Let’s hope it’s not Daryll or Conor Donovan (Devon Bagby).

Paul Vincent O’Connor played Abby Donovan’s father. We all know Mickey Donovan isn’t getting the Father of the Year award anytime soon but neither is Mr. Kelly. He hates the Donovans and has no use for Abby because she married one. After making several demeaning remarks to her, he just about told her where she could shove her idea to buy the Kelly bar with Donovan money.

Other notes:

* Interesting that Ginger (Fairuza Balk) was part of Mickey’s happy family barbecue dream.
* Lena (Katherine Moennig) came back to work for Ray. With Lee popping a blood vessel every ten minutes, can Avi be far behind? It would be cool if we could have some more “Behind the Fix” videos,wouldn’t it?
* It was kind of cute when Ray ran into two philosophy students discussing Kant and Hume in relation to Johnny Utah of the film, Point Break. Ray was out of his depths there. But he wasn’t out of his depths when Blackwell taunted him with possession being 9/10ths of the law and a possible claim that the cell phone was his. “I might reasonably not give a sh*t about that law, Professor,” he responded.
