Supporting Cast of A Girl Named Maria: Ray Donovan
There were several colorful characters in “A Girl Named Maria,” (12-2-2018), the sixth episode of “Ray Donovan,” Season 6. The episode recap is here.
Jillian Lindig played the “New York Dame” standing outside the Russian Tea Room across from Sam Winslow’s building. She whistled at Ray and Lena so she obviously wanted to talk to them about something, but not enough to cross the street.
Rick Crom played the real priest who talked to Bunchy, unaware that he was not a real priest. He must not have heard any of the lyrics of the hip hop song Bunchy was listening to that he turned off and claimed was Christian hip hop. He thought it was very funny when Bunchy gave his name as Father Tom Brady and made a crack about Father Deflategate. Bunchy didn’t really get it.
Pat Bowie played the woman on the Hampton Jitney who didn’t want to part with her purse because it was a present from her daughter. She told Mickey he wasn’t getting it “gun or no gun” and kicked him in the shins.
Danny Doherty played the man who drew a gun and threatened to kill Mickey if he didn’t drop the bag of stuff he had already robbed from the passengers and get off the bus. His hand was shaking so badly we wondered if he was bluffing. Mickey wasn’t but Bunchy talked him out of shooting the guy. Mickey took the woman’s purse because she wasn’t “nice.”
The whole thing was rather ludicrous but I guess if we need a reason why Bunchy and Mickey could get away, dressed as priests in a big bright yellow jeep, and pull off another robbery shortly thereafter, it’s because the cops were too busy doing the mayor’s dirty work to be bothered.
Chris Tardio played Danny Bianchi, the dirty cop who broke into Sam Winslow’s building and beat her with a pistol, warning her to stay out of the mayoral race. Danny and Rad, another disgrace to his uniform, later stopped Ray. Danny hit Ray in the back of the legs, knocking him down. They handcuffed him and hauled him off to jail. Sam Winslow pulled some strings to get Ray out of jail in the season opener but that’s not likely to happen this time since she is the main reason that this is even happening.
Michael J. Burg played Ron, the fellow in the surveillance shop, who helped Ray find out that Danny Bianchi was the one who broke in on Sam. Ray knows Ron from L.A. Back in August, Michael J. Burg tweeted that this is going to be a recurring role for him.
Alyssa Diaz returned as Bunchy’s ex-wife and it sure was something to watch Teresa blame everything that went wrong with the marriage on Bunchy, wasn’t it? She conveniently forgot that she hasn’t exactly been Mother of the Year herself. Remember how she left Bunchy and Maria and how when Bunchy brought Maria back to her, she dropped the kid off like a foundling with a note? That was back in Season 4. Then her family threw her in a mental hospital and Bunchy and Mickey broke her out. When he brought that up, she slapped him in the face and left with Maria. Oh well, maybe Bunchy can reunite with Maria after he gets out of jail for his recent crime spree. We really don’t want them to end his storyline with a suicide. The Donovans already have one of those in their family history: sister, Bridget, who jumped off a roof.
