Defenestration of Frank Recap: Shameless

In the 6th episode of Shameless Season 7 (11-6-2016), New Lip overhears enough to organize a mutiny against Frank. Debbie moves in with Neil. Carl gets his scholarship and something really horrible happens at Ian’s job.

Go forth and take their money ~ Frank Gallagher

Frank was skimming hard from the handout money that the residents of the Gallagher Home for the Homeless were bringing in. Not only that, he’s been selling off the free stuff that the various charities and churches around town have been donating. He sold a new sofa and some other things for $440 and told his new family that he got $40. The lone voice of dissension in all of this has been New Lip, who wants to know what Frank does with all the money. He has never been happy with doing all the work and getting a paltry cut. Frank told New Lip if he couldn’t pull his weight out on the corner, he would be demoted to cleaning toilets and that’s where he was when Debbie stopped by to get consent to marry Neil. Frank refused and went into a little spiel about how he’s taking care of his new family. Debbie noted that might be, but they didn’t know he was ripping them off– new family, same Frank. New Lip overheard it all and when everyone returned from their work detail, Frank was thrown out the second story window. But you knew that was going to happen if you knew what defenestration means, and we do.

I’m washing dishes and Carl’s got a scholarship. The world’s upside down ~ Lip Gallagher

Carl got his scholarship to military school based on his Apache heritage. The Gallaghers planned to give him a send-off party but a little come-on from Dominique almost derailed the whole thing, highlighting Carl’s weak side. Her father picked Carl up and took him to where Dominique was hanging out with a stud. Carl was shocked to learn that this guy was not circumcised, after he blew all the money he had on getting that done to himself just because Dom wanted him to. He told the guy that Dom had gonorrhea and left. Fiona asked Lip to pick up the stuff for Carl’s party. Lip asked Debbie to do it and she passed it on to Ian, who never made it home at all (he was with Trevor). Carl was still undecided for fear of being hazed, but got a little pep talk from the family. The next thing you know, he was on the bus to Georgia, and the Gallaghers gave him odds of lasting either a week or four hours.

We’re engaged. ~ Neil

Debbie moved in with Neil and Sierra. She had to take Franny for a physical checkup and was really worried that they would take the child away. Lip reassured her that they wouldn’t. She later made dinner for everyone except Fiona. At the table, Neil blurted out that Sierra thinks Debbie is only with him for his money. Debbie defended her choice to be with Neil. “You may see someone with brain damage, but I see someone who doesn’t lie, like all the other guys I’ve ever been with.” That was like two, wasn’t it? There was Derek, and she’s the one who lied to him. And let’s not forget Mattie who stopped being friends with her because “friends don’t rape friends.” She pointed out that Neil was getting a good deal with her, too. Neil announced their engagement. Sierra’s kid, Lucas, clapped, the only one to show approval. Later, after she struck out with Frank, Fiona agreed to give consent for their marriage as her guardian.

New Deals

Lip and Joaquin put their wire transfer scheme into action and siphoned off some money from Lip’s place of employment. Lip went to work, trying to scope out whether anyone noticed anything amiss. The computer technician he buddied up to said all he was dealing with were Russian and Chinese hackers. Lip took Rocky the dog out for a walk and let Joaquin know that everything was going fine. But when he got back the FBI was there again. And this time, the company owners were going to jail. He was very shaken (and now the de facto owner of Rocky). Fiona in the meantime, had made a deal with Etta, the laudromat owner, who clearly doesn’t know her a$$ from her elbow. She told Fiona that the yuppies who want to buy her place offered $100K, so Fiona offered to get a loan for that amount and let Etta stay. Fiona could only get an $80K loan, putting up the Gallagher homestead as collateral. Etta marveled that her business was worth $80K when Fiona told her that was all she could get. Fiona didn’t tell her that she was forgetting about the $100K offer and Etta signed off on Fiona’s terms. Lip was incredibly upset to learn about it, considering how he had thought it was a good idea when Fiona first told him about it. Now that the FBI has those computers he and Joaquin hacked into, he must be very worried that the theft will be discovered and he’ll be accused of something far more serious than embezzlement.

No one is who they seem to be

We can now add bigamist to Svetlana’s Big List of Accomplishments. Yvon, who learned his first English word (Grandpa), is really her husband and not her father. Kev was the first to spot the two of them in bed together and he thought that Yvon was forcing Svetlana. He told V and they planned to stop Yvon with some baseball bats but found out that she was a willing partner. When confronted, she acted like it was no big deal. So where are they going with this? Maybe Svetlana and Yvon can get a divorce and he can marry Kev to stay in the country. We think this nullifies Svetlana and V’s marriage, though, so he could marry V instead.

Ian had a very traumatic experience at work when a woman who was hit by a car died in the ambulance while he was trying to stabilize her. He tearfully showed up at Trevor’s house. They quickly ended up in bed but found out they were sexually incompatible. There were also some hints in this episode that Sierra is a transgender. At least Ian thought so when Lip told him about their bedroom escapades. Sierra proposed to Lip, saying he could be a father to Lucas, and we’re not sure if she was serious or just trying to gauge his reaction. He was already worried that she was trying to be more serious when Joaquin suggested as much. Then Neil told him that a lot of guys used to come around but now he’s the only one. By the end of this episode, Lip and Sierra agreed to keep seeing each other but to keep it casual.
