Stephen Curry Sets NBA Record for Three Point Baskets
Stephen Curry came into the Golden State Warriors at New York Knicks game on December 14th needing just two 3-point baskets to set the career record for those, so you had to figure the only suspense was at what point in the game he would break the record of 2,793 set by Ray Allen.
Curry tied the record early on with his first shot attempt. It took a little longer to get the record breaker, but he hit that one with 7:33 left in the 1st quarter. Both Ray Allen and Reggie Miller, who held the record before Allen, were present. Miller was broadcasting the game for Turner Sports. Curry would make three more three pointers, ending the evening with 2,978. The Warriors won the game 105-96 to improve to 23-5 on the season.
Curry is having a phenomenal season, as are the Warriors. He’s averaging 26.9 points, 6.1 assists, and 5.5 rebounds per game. At age 33, he should be able to run his three point record well past the previous mark, and should figure into the NBA Most Valuable Player discussion, an award he won in 2015 and 2016.
