Scott Dixon Wins Genesys 300 in IndyCar Season Opener

The NTT IndyCar Series auto racing schedule this year was put on hold just like everything else due to the Covid-19 pandemic; in fact there had been no races at all, with the big one, the Indianapolis 500 being postponed from Memorial Day Weekend until August 23rd. That changed on June 6th, as the series made its season debut with the Genesys 300 in very warm Fort Worth, Texas.

As has been the case this year since a limited number of sporting events have returned, the race was run without spectators in the stands. Practice and qualifying occurred earlier in the day, and the race was shortened to 200 laps from 248. Temperatures at the track were in the 90’s so race day was very hot in addition to being very long to begin with.

If the racing atmosphere was different, the race winner was a very familiar figure. Five time IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon took the checkered flag for the fourth time in this race, which was his 47th career win on the IndyCar circuit. Simon Pagenaud was second and Josef Newgarden was third. Dixon, who led for 157 laps, is third in career wins behind A.J. Foyt (67) and Mario Andretti (52).
