Royals Win Wild Wild Card Game
The Kansas City Royals made an exciting return to the postseason after 29 years with a come from behind extra innings victory over the Oakland Athletics in the American League Wild Card playoff game. The Royals beat Oakland 9-8 for their first playoff victory since the heyday of George Brett.
We are not big fans of this one game play in game between the two Wild Cards. We’d like to see at least a two of three series, if not three of five. That being said, this was a terrific game. Royals baserunners stole a total of seven bases, which tied a post season record. Oakland’s Brandon Moss hit a pair of home runs. Oakland also had a five run sixth inning to take a 7 to 3 lead, but Kansas City scored three in the eighth inning and one in the ninth to send it to extra innings.
Oakland scored one in the 12th to take the lead, but Kansas City tied it and then won it on this Salvador Perez single in the bottom of the 12th.
Kansas City will now have the unenviable task of taking on the Los Angeles Angels in an American League Division Series. The Angels were a major league best 98-64 during the regular season. But whether they make it past the Angels or not, this game was a great way for the Royals to show they are relevant again.

Being an Angels fan is like asking that really hot woman out and having her say, “I’ll think about it”.
