PGA Tour Golf Will (Hopefully) Return in Mid June–Without Fans Present
The PGA Tour, which was halted in March due to Covid-19, has announced it will return for the Charles Schwab Challenge at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas on June 11th-14th. The tournament will be played without spectators present, as will the next three tournaments after that, at the very least. The Tour will include 28 events over 25 weeks. Resumption of the tour depends on public health officials approving of the PGA’s plans, all of which hinge on the status of the Covid-19 pandemic at that time. No, it won’t be gone then, but the hope and planning is based on it being under some kind of control.
The prevailing thought out there at this time is that for sports to resume this summer, and possibly the fall, is that events will take place without spectators present, if they take place at all, for the immediate future. The NBA and NHL are still trying to figure out how and when to finish their interrupted seasons, and have playoffs, and Major League Baseball is kicking around various strategies for how and when to start the 2020 season. We’ll take televised games in empty stadiums, provided the health of players, coaches, arena workers, and media people is the top priority and the games can go on safely.
